Quadrant Archaeological Display

A publicly-accessible display, The Archaeology of Eau de Cologne Valley - The Slaughterhouses of Blackwattle Bay in the new Quadrant building, corner Broadway and Mountain Streets, Sydney, provides a record of the rich archaeological history of the Quadrant site.

The site originally formed a distinct neighbourhood within the City of Sydney. From the 1830s, its location and the presence of Blackwattle Creek attracted a variety of polluting industries including tanneries, slaughterhouses and breweries. With the absence of sewerage an other municipal services, the area became known as the Eau de Cologne Valley due to its offensive odours.

Services provided included interpretation, web input, graphic and display design, and on-site installation.

The display was produced for DMA Archaeology on behalf of Australand Holdings Ltd.
